Choose around the delivery deadline
Choose a same day courier when the goods need to arrive later that day and the journey can realistically be completed in the available time. A dedicated overnight courier may suit goods that are ready later, need to travel outside normal hours or must reach the receiver early the following morning.
Start with when the goods will be ready and when the receiver needs them. Allow enough time for collection, the journey and unloading.
Start with two times
First, confirm when the goods will actually be packed and ready to load. Then confirm the latest time they can arrive. A requested collection time is not useful if production, packing or paperwork will still be in progress.
Be precise about the deadline. “Tomorrow morning” could mean before a 6am shift, within a booked 9–10am slot or any time before midday. Tell us which applies to your delivery.
Also distinguish arrival from completed unloading. If an installation starts at 8am, a van reaching the gate at 8am may already be too late once security, unloading and the handover are included.
When same day delivery makes sense
Same day delivery can suit a replacement part needed to restart work, stock required before a shop closes or equipment needed for an afternoon appointment. A dedicated vehicle takes the goods from the agreed collection point to the delivery address.
It is often the practical choice when someone can receive the goods today and keeping them until tomorrow would cause a problem. Confirm the receiving contact will remain available long enough for the delivery to be completed.
For a long journey or a late collection, call us with the details so we can discuss the timing.
When dedicated overnight delivery makes sense
A dedicated overnight delivery can help when goods are ready after normal dispatch hours, a routine carrier cut-off has been missed or an early delivery is needed before the next working day begins.
For example, equipment finished in the evening may be required for a morning installation elsewhere in the country. The questions are whether it can be collected that evening, whether there’s enough time for the journey and whether the receiver can accept it at the agreed time.
Our overnight courier service uses dedicated transport without routine parcel-hub handling. Overnight and out-of-hours work must be discussed with ACS before booking so availability and the delivery plan can be confirmed.
Dedicated overnight is different from standard next-day delivery
Standard next-day services generally operate to a carrier’s network schedule and acceptance rules. They can be suitable for routine shipments when the available service meets the delivery requirement.
A dedicated overnight courier is booked for your collection and delivery. It may be appropriate when a collection falls outside a network cut-off, the goods require direct transport or the goods need to arrive at a particular time.
Do not compare the two on the word “overnight” alone. Compare the actual collection arrangement, delivery commitment, handling and suitability for the goods. Our guide to dedicated courier and pallet network delivery explores the wider service choice.
Check what happens outside normal hours
Confirm who will open the collection premises, release the goods and provide any loading equipment. At delivery, confirm the correct entrance and a contact who will answer at the agreed time.
A building being occupied does not necessarily mean goods-in is operating. Security staff may be unable to accept freight, and a forklift may be locked away until the warehouse shift starts.
Share any access restrictions, delivery references or booking slots before booking. Include equipment needs even for a small shipment if it cannot be handled as an ordinary carton.
Compare the full plan, not just the price
Overnight transport is not automatically cheaper because the delivery happens tomorrow. Vehicle availability, the route, collection time and handling requirements all affect the quote.
If either service would meet the deadline, say so. Explain the earliest possible collection and latest acceptable delivery, and ask which arrangement is suitable. If the deadline cannot change, tell us when you enquire.
